  1. I’ve never heard of a Wonder Oven. How do I get more information? I have always worried about how to cook when the propane runs out. It sounds like it would be something I would really use. My house is so small, and heats up to the “Give yourself a stroke” level when I bake.

    1. Hi Charline! Just email me (myfoodstoragecoookbook@hotmail.com) your mailing address and I’ll send you out a paper pattern along with instructions on sewing one, if you’d like to make one. The best (easiest) place to purchase the beads is via this place — but you have to be prepared for enough beads in one bag to make 5 wonder ovens (so maybe you can find some friends to go in on it with you or make extras to give as gifts). If you’re not the sewing type you can always spend more and buy one pre-made online (at this place for example). Thanks for reading!

  2. are your wonder ovens all gone?? I live in TX, and I have a friend who raves about hers. I’ve seen it and it’s awesome. I would love to buy one of yours and start using it myself. I am the “provident living” person at my church, so I wanna become adept at using it and then show mine off and get more people using one. Lemme know if you have any more!

  3. Hi, I just found your site and am so excited! I had no idea about the wonder oven, they sound absolutely wonderful! I’d like to try and make me a set, but don’t sew much anymore, as I am quite handicapped. The wonder oven would really help trying to keep the bills down, since having to retire. Could you tell me where to find recipes and more details on how to use it? Thanks so much, what a sweet person you must be, so willing to help others. Lava Grandma

    1. Oh yes, there are lots of recipes here on the blog detailing how to use it. The easiest way to find them is to either look in the Recipe Index or in the Categories tab under “Wonder Oven Cooking”. If there are any orders that don’t go through you’re first in line to get one of the ones I’ve offered here! I’ll send you an email if that happens 🙂

  4. What an awesome project! I’ve been using a cooler with a quilted liner made from an old sleeping bag as my wonder oven because I can’t source the beads to make a proper set of pillows out here in the boonies. I’d love to have a pretty set of pillows; but since I have a workable solution, I won’t be taking advantage of your gift of free labor so that others who don’t have a chance to get one 🙂

Since we’re in a remote off-grid cabin, I use my wonder oven all the time. In summer it’s great for things that have long cooking times so I don’t have heat up the cabin with the woodstove or use up our propane. In the winter, it gently finishes up dishes I start on the woodstove so they don’t get scorched and overdone. My absolute favorite thing in winter is starting the fire in the morning and being able to eat hot yummy oatmeal that cooked overnight in the WO while I’m waiting for the wood stove to warm the place up again. Or maybe coming in to a hearty bowl of stew or chowder that was holding in my WO when I’ve been working outside at -40F.

Oh yeah, just so you know, Alaska is part of the United States so we are residents, too; even if we’re separated from the Lower 48 by another country and have to spend an extra $3 in shipping 😀

    1. Lol, oh Jenine you totally need one! How about this…I’ll send you the beads you need (and I may or may not send along an extra set of sewn pillows that I haven’t gotten around to filling yet) for just the price of shipping. You of all people deserve a fancy wonder oven set. 🙂

  5. I would love to have a wonder oven as part of my survival supplies. We live close to the Gulf Coast and there have been times we have been without power depending on propane for cooking. A propane tank does not go very far when cooking for several people and it iis expensive to try to stock up on propane.

The first dish I would learn to cook is rice and beans. That is the main staple I have stocked of non processed foods. It would be great to not eat canned (processed food) for days on end.

I would definitely show my dad he has been pushing all of us to be as prepared as possible. I think his main concern is that he is getting older and would not be able to take care of or provide for all his children (all adults now) if something were to happen.

    1. Super!! Yes, be sure to show it to your dad. This is one of the very best tools you can have on hand, I’m sure he’ll enjoy learning about it. Your invoice is on it’s way now.

  6. I have been trying to get as many recipes as possible written down for using my food storage. Your blog has been a big help. I don’t know anyone who has ever had or even heard of a wonder oven. Thank goodness for your blog and some others helping people get started with food storage. It helped us through the last 5 1/2 mo. of unemployment. If I had a wonder oven I would make bread in the can like you did, white chicken chili, and beans and rice. Can you make meatloaf or finish off a breakfast casserole? Anything to keep people full. My mom and sister and two brothers and their families would be who I would show the wonder oven to and share it with. I love the idea of conserving some of your stored fuel by saving energy and using the heat in the wonder oven to cook with.thankfully my husband was able to find a job 3 weeks ago, so I can try to start building our food storage back up again a little at a time. Thx for your hard work. I’m sure whoever is blessed with your efforts will appreciate this opportunity. Thanks.-Kelly T. Colorado

    1. You can definitely finish off a breakfast casserole, or any casserole for that matter as long as it’s all the way heated through first. We’ve finished off baking potatoes before in it, cutting the time in half and it’s the same idea. Also, there’s this breakfast casserole post (in case you haven’t seen it). Meatloaf…I’ll have to look into that, I’m not sure.

I’d love for you to get one! The invoice is on it’s way.
