Print the recipe card!  granola

This is my good friend Angie’s recipe ~  I love it!  It’s measurements are so easy to remember and it makes a good amount of granola for snacks or breakfast.  Plus, your kids will never suspect the healthy extras you sneak into it … wheat germ, flax seed, seeds or dried fruit of any kind.  It always turns out great!

Prep time:  5 minutes

Cook time:  90 minutes

makes 20 cups


1 full #10 can oats

1 cup dry milk

3 cups dried apples, chopped

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups chopped almonds

1 cup wheat germ

1 cup raisins

1 cup golden raisins

2 TBS cinnamon

1 cup water

1 cup oil

2/3 cup honey

4 tsp. vanilla


Mix all dry ingredients except raisins.  In a separate bowl whisk together wet ingredients.  Pour liquid mixture over dry mixture and stir together.  Spread on a cookie sheet (in three separate batches) and bake at 350 for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to cook evenly.  Be careful not to over bake.  Let cool and finally stir in the raisins.  Store in an airtight container.

Combine dry ingredients.

Add liquid mixture.

Spread on cookie sheets and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.

Allow granola to cool, add raisins and stir all together.



  • I store my chopped almonds, brown sugar and wheat germ in mason jars that I’ve vacuum sealed with a jar attachment for my food saver.  I love storing these things this way and it’s so simple to do — it takes less than half a minute to seal a jar!  There are lots of videos that show how to do this on youtube if you want to learn how.
  • I was hoping to get to try this recipe out in my sun oven today but at one point we had a few sprinkles of rain so I decided not to.  I’m curious to find out how long it takes to bake in a sun oven — I’ll update this post when I find out!
